After a traumatic event during his residency, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) transfers to a rural hospital for a fresh start. Observing that James struggles to connect with patients and has an awkwardness about him, Dr. Harrison (veteran stage and screen actor Michael Potts) suggests he take a class focused on bedside manners and facilitating deeper relationships with patients. When he is overwhelmed by the case of a young asthmatic patient (Sidney Flanigan, never a rarity) with mysterious symptoms, James’s past demons begin to haunt him. His grip on reality begins to slip as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-induced speculations, and physical injuries collide with the harsh realities of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson, in his sequel to SAINT FRANCES – and predecessor to GHOSTLIGHT – assembles a strong ensemble of veteran character actors in this humanistic and unconventional genre vision.
